Intern Application
In
order to become a Registered Environmental Health Specialist or Environmental Health Specialist
Intern in the State of North Carolina, an individual
must first make application to the North Carolina State
Board of Environmental Health Specialist Examiners (Board) as a Environmental Health Specialist
Intern. To qualify for consideration, an individual must
have a 4-year bachelor’s degree and completed at least
30 college semester hours in the
physical or biological
sciences. The application process requires the following
submissions to the Board:
- A
completed Intern Application (Adobe .pdf) with a
check in the amount of $50.00 payable to the North
Carolina State Board of Environmental Health Specialist Examiners.
The applications must have the signature and seal of
a Notary Public.
- A
copy of the current Job Description for the
applicant signed by the applicant's
supervisor. The job must meet the definition of “Environmental Health Practice”, as defined in NC General Statute 90A-51(2a).
- A signed and notarized Code of Ethics statement.
- A
certified transcript of all degrees and educational
courses completed and grades received.
The 30 semester hours of science requirement will be determined through evaluation of your transcript(s). Transcript(s) must be sent to the Board Office directly from the educational institution.

The
Board will review the application, including the job
description and the transcript, at its next official
meeting. When the Board has approved the application,
the individual will be notified as soon as possible. If
approved, the individual is immediately registered as a
Environmental Health Specialist Intern and must complete all requirements for
full registration as a Registered Environmental Health Specialist within the
time limits set by Article 4 of Chapter 90A.
All
forms, fees, and documents should be mailed to the Administrative Assistant to the Board.
